Bukhara - Shakhrisyabz – Samarkand - In the Heart of the Timurid Empire

Day 5

• After breakfast, you’ll embark on a fascinating journey to Shakhrisyabz, the hometown of one of history’s greatest conquerors: Amir Timur, also known as Tamerlane. This 5-hour journey through Uzbekistan’s landscapes will connect you with the land that saw the birth of an empire.
• In Shakhrisyabz, you will have time to take lunch.
• Next, you’ll explore the Dorut Tilovat Complex, immersing yourself in the spirituality and history of a sacred site built in the 14th century, the final resting place of Shamsiddin Kulal, Timur’s mentor and a key figure in the spread of Sufism in Central Asia.
• Then, you’ll visit the majestic Kok-Gumbaz Mosque, also known as the “Blue Dome Mosque.” Built by Ulugh Beg, Timur’s grandson, in the 15th century, this mosque is a perfect example of Timurid architecture, with its blue dome shining under the blue sky and the white desert sun.
• The next stop will be Amir Timur Square, the heart of Shakhrisyabz, to see the imposing statue of the notable local figure, Timur, whose empire stretched from Delhi to Damascus.
• Following this, you’ll visit the Ak-Saray Complex, undoubtedly the crown jewel of Shakhrisyabz. Its palace, dating back to the 14th century and still as awe-inspiring as ever, was Timur’s summer residence. This UNESCO World Heritage site allows you to walk through the same halls once traversed by ambassadors from around the world. Admire the blue and green mosaics decorating its walls and let your imagination soar to days of feasts and imperial diplomacy.
• After visiting Shakhrisyabz, you’ll embark on a 2-hour journey to Samarkand, one of the most emblematic cities of the Silk Road, arriving at your hotel at around 5 PM.
• A fantastic traditional dinner awaits to close this day full of history and discoveries. At a central restaurant, the authentic flavors of Uzbek cuisine will introduce you to the rich culinary heritage of this historic region with typical dishes such as chuchvara.
